The church of the Holy Apostles in the historical center of Kalamata is of particular importance, as the Greek Revolution was proclaimed here on March 23, 1821. The original Byzantine small church is from the 12th century and today houses the Sanctuary. Post-Byzantine frescoes (end of the 16th century – beginning of the 17th century) are preserved inside the original Byzantine church.
